Dear Paul

On behalf of the Stroke Survivors Foundation (SSF), I would like to thank you for your very kind sponsorship which resulted in a very successful fundraising event at Belgravia Bowls Club. At the Sunday lunch, we were keen to show you the reality of stroke within young people…as unfortunate as this is, it is reality and where the SSF is greatly needed!

With approximately 200 000 strokes each year, there is an enormous need for stroke support groups. We have submitted applications for funding with the National Lotto, but as yet, without funding from government and Lotto, we are reliant on donations and sponsorships to enable us to carry out our objectives…which is to mainly create support groups for stroke survivors and their families.

In 2016 we were able to start  three new support group namely, Thelle Mogoerane Hospital (Vosloorus), Pietermaritzburg and Port Elizabeth. This year, we already have requests to create support groups in Mbombela (Nelspruit), Milnerton Cape Town and Durban south coast. As you can imagine, it does take a bit of seed money to launch these support groups and once they are up and running, assist them to a point where they are self-sustainable.

The SSF has been a member of the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) since 2014 and towards the end of 2016, I was elected on to the WSO board of directors. This has brought us some tremendous opportunities to receive support and guidance from other support organisations throughout the world and we will continue to nurture our relationships with our new friends and grow from this experience.

In summation, a big thank you and we look forward to the event later this year and hope that you will support Mike and his team at the event once again.

Thank you.

Kind regards
