THASA SKILLS DEVELOPMENT has successfully completed its 2017 skills development program and is ready to empower
more learners in 2018
Hairdressing can provide a light at the end of the tunnel for disadvantaged youth who are encountering difficult situations in their lives.
Skills Development program is a WELFARE2WORK initiative of Gauteng Social Development, in their goal to uplift, skill and improve the earning potential and circumstances of youth in Gauteng Province.
In 2017 THE HAIR ACADEMY OF SOUTH AFRICA (THASA) offered vocational skills development training in hairdressing to 50 candidates who have now successfully completed their level 2 and some of them have since decided to further their studies and enrol for full qualification (level 3 and 4) furthermore have been placed at the salons as apprentices. With the success of class of 2017, THASA has now concluded 2018 enrolment, working with Godisang Development (NPO) 50 candidates have been recruited through Job Centers. The candidates are recruited from different townships around Gauteng, among those who benefit from the program are young people in vulnerable social or economic situations but have passion and willingness of changing their situation. These are awarded an opportunity to study hairdressing Level 2, this enabled them not only to find employment within the hair and beauty industry but also become future entrepreneurs, through new venture creation. The focus of this program is to create successful hairdressing professionals.
Gauteng Social Development with its partners and service providers is all about empowering the next generation of professional artisans through education and training and to elevate industries such as hairdressing sector by working with service providers such as THASA SKILLS DEVELOPMENT, which is mandated to train learners to develop professionally with hands-on education and training; and enabling each of them to gain the experience needed to work in a professional and well-established hair salons. Learners are given classroom and teaching resources that maximize their education and training development. The acquired knowledge and creativity transform them into competent and confident hairdressers.
This program does not only focus on training but also facilitate the job placements of learners during and after completion of the program. THASA SKILLS DEVELOPMENT has forged partnerships with industry stakeholders such as EMPLOYERS ORGANISATION HAIRDRESSING COSMETOLOGY AND BEAUTY, this has given the program an easy access to well organized and professionally managed salons to employ the skills development learners. THASA also believes with major players in the industry, such as suppliers, hence suppliers have always been part of the mandate to empower the hairdressing industry.
